Just For Fun

A while ago Bill and I had both gotten a speeding ticket in the same day! (my only one though!) So both of us had to go to the all-day Drive Safe class.....I went the first weekend and Bill the second. The days that we weren't in class we each took Sawyer on "A Day Of Fun" and filmed each fun thing we did along the way! We went to the park and the zoo. This was Sawyer and I's first video and we were watching it in slow-mo the other day with some friends and it just was so funny. ENJOY!

One HOT Day....

Any guesses as to where we spent a really hot day? (Jeopardy music playing in the background) The ZOO! Sawyer was still on his trip with my mom so unfortunately he didn't get to come with us. but we had a GREAT time! It was fun to have my friend Stefanie with us and also Dane's mom, Merri too! We hit the petting zoo, the cats, gorilla valley, the bears, the desert dome, the aquarium....and what trip to the zoo is complete without a ride on the carousel? (The kids wanting to ride around in a circle on fake animals when we are surrounded by the real ones is beyond me.....)

We had a picnic lunch and of course the kids all fell asleep on the ride home :)

Water Works Camp 2011

During the summer months, our church takes full advantage of the warm weather and holds tons of different day camps for the kids! After looking over the schedule, I signed Sawyer an his Day Care buddies up for the Water Works Camp.

They had SUCH an awesome week going to church and doing TONS of water themed activities!

Sawyer kind of partnered up with one of the high school leaders for the week and followed him everywhere! It was quite a bit of work getting things situated at home for a sub to come in and watch the infants while we were gone everyday and load all the older kids up and taxi them all over-but it was so worth it! (My wonderful mother was there this week too-so she held down the fort :)

They would always start out the day all together in the gym, doing fun songs and talking about the verse that they were going to be focusing on that day. They were also broken up into groups of ten and would just rotate around to the different stations of activities all over the church grounds. They had water slides, mini pools, pretty amazing arts and crafts, snack time, Bible story time, memory verse madness and then would all come back to big group to finish with more singing!

They were all SO tuckered out by the time that we got home-they kept falling asleep in the car...and we all know what a joyous time that is when you wake kids up for a ten minute nap....

They can't wait for next summer so that they can go back :) It's also been pretty neat to see some interest with some of the families to start coming to our church because the kids had such a great time that week! Wahoo God!

Parent's Perk Morning

We were due for another Parent's Perk since our last one was over a month ago, so last night at 9:30 p.m. I had the brilliant idea of making homemade cinnamon rolls! Yup, not one of my brightest moments. But I was determined! After whipping out a double recipe, letting them rise for two hours, rolling them out and covering them for their sleepover in the fridge...I was pooped! It was 1:00 a.m. and it felt as though I had been up for days.

It was back up again for me, at 5:00 a.m. to take the rolls out, let them rise and bake them off. They smelled GLORIOUS! They rose to become these perfectly plump, soft, melt-in-your-mouth balls of heaven.....but for those of you who have never made homemade cinnamon rolls before, here's a tip: Let the rolls cool in the pan fora a while before you put your icing on! If you get impatient like me and only wait about 47 seconds, the icing will melt and fall into the crevices of the rolls like little pools of heaven. Then you'll stick your finger in the middle so you can taste it and you will burn yourself and possibly let out an expletive. You'll be so hurt that you'll have to stuff a cinnamon roll into your mouth to comfort yourself. And possibly another one because the first one was too hot to enjoy. Not that I have experienced any of this mind you....

I ground coffee beans, put the juices on ice, got out all our coffee stuff and waited for the onslaught of hungry parents! I think they really enjoyed it!
